Description

The Drovers Boy by Irvine Hunt tells the story of Henry Hodgkin's journey as he is sent to walk 600 geese to market with Torse, an Irish Drover. In Cumberland in the late 19th century, the roads are rough and the journey is long, testing the bond between man and boy.

As they beg their way from door to door selling geese at farms and cottages, Henry learns to face his hopes and fears. Despite warnings that Torse is not to be trusted, a connection develops between them. The question remains: will there be any going back when the journey ends?
