Description

The Devil in a Domino (Valancourt Classics) Aleck Severn's life appears to be one of contrasts. Born inside a prison walls after his mother's violent outburst, he has grown into a handsome and affable man, popular with friends and beloved by his wife Marianne. However, as the nights draw in, Marianne begins to suspect that her husband is hiding a dark secret. Severn's remote house is shrouded in mystery, and the bodies of murdered women have been turning up around London, sparking a sense of unease among the public. This early novel, inspired by the Jack the Ripper murders, was met with mixed reviews upon its initial publication, with some critics praising Severn's literary talent while condemning the book's graphic content. A rare and unsettling work, The Devil in a Domino has not been reprinted in over a century, making this new edition all the more significant.
