Description
Caroline Herschel's remarkable story is one of determination and perseverance in the face of adversity. From her early days as a domestic servant in Germany, she taught herself to sing and eventually established a successful career in England.
It was while helping her brother William, then Astronomer Royal, that Caroline discovered her passion for astronomy and began making scientific discoveries of her own. Her groundbreaking work earned her international recognition and made her the first woman in Britain to receive a salary for her scientific contributions.
This book tells the story of Caroline Herschel's remarkable journey, drawing on original sources including her diaries and letters. Claire Brock brings to life the challenges she faced as a woman in a male-dominated world, and the ways in which she fought to achieve her ambitions.
