Description

Captain Edward Poulsen buys his ship, Caton, at a naval auction and accepts his first consignment as a privateer to transport tubs of brandy from France to Cornwall. He visits the village of Swain Cove, where he meets Catherine Bristow, a young woman who runs a candy shop with her father. The operation involves coloring the brandy with caramel syrup, but Edward soon discovers that there are no sons in Caramel and Sons - only Catherine. Catherine offers to show Edward the operation, eager to prove she and her father can do the job for which they've been hired. Impressed by the candy maker's skills, Edward finds himself drawn to Catherine. As he navigates his new responsibilities in London, their relationship becomes increasingly complicated. Smuggling is not the only secret in Swain Cove, as Edward learns more about the village and its inhabitants.
