Description

The Book of OSM: A Story of Open Mapping OpenStreetMap is a remarkable achievement in collaborative mapping. Founded by Steve Coast and supported by millions of volunteers, it has produced a free and open wiki map of the world. This book tells the story of how this ambitious project came to be, from its humble beginnings in 2004. Through 15 interviews with key figures involved in OSM's early days, we gain insight into the challenges and successes faced by the project's founders. From the use of everyday tools like GPS devices and paper maps, to the creation of a map that rivals those produced by major corporations, this book offers a fascinating look at how a community-driven initiative achieved such remarkable results. By exploring the history and development of OSM, we can gain a deeper understanding of the power of collaborative effort and the potential for open-source projects to achieve great things.
