Description
The Blazing World by Margaret Cavendish is a fantastical and satirical tale of a young woman's journey to a utopian kingdom in another world. This 17th-century work of fiction is notable for its blend of genres, including romance, adventure, and autobiography. In this imaginative story, the protagonist enters a society composed of various species of talking animals, where she becomes the empress and organizes an invasion back into her own world. The novel features fantastical elements, such as submarines towed by "fish men" and the dropping of "fire stones" by "bird men", which add to its sense of wonder and excitement. Published in 2017, this edition of The Blazing World offers a unique glimpse into the writing style and imagination of Margaret Cavendish, one of the few female authors of utopian fiction from the 17th century.
