Description

The Bini Massacre by Aimuawonsa Okundia presents a unique perspective on the history of the Benin Kingdom in Nigeria. This comic account explores the evolution of the kingship system, from the Ogiso rulers to the Obas, and delves into the events leading up to the infamous 1896 massacre of British Expeditioners. The book chronicles the reign of Oba Ovonramwen, which ultimately led to the invasion of the Benin Kingdom and the punitive actions taken against the empire. The author sheds light on this pivotal moment in history, revealing the carefully calculated genocide and mass looting that occurred on September 13th, 1897. Through this historical narrative, Okundia offers a fresh perspective on a lesser-known chapter in African history, making this book an interesting read for those looking to expand their knowledge of the region.
