Description
Flora 717 is a sanitation worker in an ancient culture where only the queen may breed. In her orchard hive, work and sacrifice are highly valued, and worship of the beloved Queen is the only religion. But Flora's curiosity is regarded as a dangerous flaw, yet she possesses courage and strength that prove to be valuable assets. As circumstances threaten the hive's survival, Flora is given new responsibilities, including feeding newborns in the royal nursery and flying alone to collect pollen. This newfound freedom allows her to discover mysteries about the hive, both profound and ominous. However, when Flora breaks the most sacred law of all - challenging the Queen's fertility - enemies abound, from fertility police enforcing strict social hierarchy to high priestesses wedded to power. Flora's deepest instincts to serve and sacrifice are now overshadowed by a fierce maternal love that will bring her into conflict with her conscience, heart, and society. This thrilling and suspenseful tale of a young heroine will change the way you look at the world outside your window.
