Description
Edna Pontellier's journey of self-discovery begins in the summer resort town of Grand Isle. As she spends time with her husband and children, Edna starts to question the conventions that govern her life. Her encounter with Robert Lebrun accelerates this process, leading her to re-evaluate her relationships and sense of identity. As the summer draws to a close, Edna's newfound independence is put to the test. She rejects the societal expectations that have defined her so far, choosing instead to forge her own path. This decision sets her on a collision course with the traditional values of the time, particularly in regards to femininity and motherhood. The Awakening explores the tensions between these opposing forces, resulting in a landmark work of early feminism and American modernism.
