Description
The Aspern Papers and Other Stories by Henry James is a collection of four novellas that explore the complex relationship between the artist and their work. Through stories such as "The Death of the Lion", "The Figure in the Carpet" and "The Birthplace", James probes the nature of creativity and the person behind the art. A new introduction by Adrian Poole provides context for these works, examining the central themes and literary contexts that underpin them. The collection also includes relevant extracts from James's Prefaces and Notebooks, offering insight into the origins and development of the stories. This edition features the definitive New York Edition text, with a select bibliography, revised notes, and an appendix on stage and screen versions. Oxford World's Classics has made this volume available, reflecting its commitment to scholarship and providing a wealth of valuable features for readers.
