Description

The Art Kettle explores the concept of 'disinterest' in philosophical accounts of aesthetic experience. It argues that modern art is not only defined by its lack of purpose, but also functions as a standard for creativity and free thinking. This book challenges the historical conflation of aesthetic experience with 'disinterest', instead highlighting the tension between artistic expression and use or purpose. By examining this complex relationship, The Art Kettle offers new insights into the nature of art, judgment, and feeling in modern society. Through its analysis, The Art Kettle sheds light on the ways in which art can be both a means of resistance and a reflection of our capitalist democracies.
