Description

The Alternative Augustan Age by Josiah Osgood challenges traditional views of Roman history. This collection of essays deliberately shifts the focus away from the princeps, exploring the perspectives and contributions of individuals who lived during this time. By examining the self-display and ideas for reform of various figures, the book reveals a more complex and dynamic period than previously thought. The authors argue that the "Augustan Age" was not as singular or influential as often assumed, but rather part of a broader cultural continuum that stretched back to earlier Roman times. This fresh perspective on Roman history makes for an engaging read, offering new insights into the lives and ideas of those who shaped the era.
