Description

The Aliens by Annie Baker is a gentle and engaging play that introduces two cult heroes in modern day America. At its centre are KJ and Jasper, two young men who embody a world of magic mushrooms, philosophical musings and great-bands-that-never-were. Their conversations about music and literature outside the back of a small coffee shop in Vermont are both humorous and profound. Seventeen-year-old Evan's summer job at the café brings him into their orbit, drawing him into their world with its unique blend of irreverence and introspection. Baker's play is a thoughtful exploration of the generation who never grew up, and what happened to them as they entered adulthood. First performed in 2010, The Aliens offers a fresh and humorous take on contemporary American life, one that is both deeply funny and profoundly insightful.
