Description

The Aeneid by Virgil is a fresh and faithful translation that restores the epic's spare language and fast pace. This rendering sheds new light on one of the cornerstone narratives of Western culture.

For two thousand years, the tale of Aeneas's dramatic flight from Troy has electrified audiences around the world. Vergil's telling weaves a heroic journey that not only gave Romans and Italians an origin story but also established fundamental themes of Western life and literature.

This translation illuminates the epic's subversive approach to storytelling, confronting the contradictions inherent in the text itself. It invites readers to explore the complex relationships between duty, love, art, and violence, as well as the tension between immigrant and indigenous cultures.
