Description

Terrorist Assemblages: Homonationalism in Queer Times by Jasbir K. Puar is a groundbreaking work that explores how contemporary forces of securitization, counterterrorism, and nationalism are reconfiguring configurations of sexuality, race, gender, nation, class, and ethnicity. Puar argues that the inclusion of certain queer subjects into liberal politics has created a tenuous relationship between queerness and the nation-state, with queer bodies being constructed as figures of life and productivity in exchange for their subjugation to heteronormative ideologies. This phenomenon is exemplified by homonationalism, a concept that Puar defines as the fusion of homosexuality with U.S. pro-war, pro-imperialist agendas. This expanded edition features new insights from Puar's work, including her analysis of feminist and queer responses to the Abu Ghraib photographs and the profiling of Sikh Americans and South Asian diasporic queers.
