Description

A controversial artist is found dead in her own art installation inside a riverside gallery with locked doors and windows. The only witness to the crime is a small boy who insists that the murderer was a masked man on horseback. Two seemingly impossible crimes have been committed, one involving a television presenter struck by lightning while indoors, the other an artist's death at the same gallery. Arthur Bryant and John May of the Met's Peculiar Crimes Unit are tasked with solving both cases. However, they face challenges: Bryant has lost his nerve following a disastrous public appearance, and May is fighting to keep the unit from closure. As they delve into the case, they uncover a sinister modern-day highwayman bringing terror to London streets in a series of puzzling crimes. The investigation takes them to an exclusive private school and a deprived housing estate, where they must navigate the dark side of celebrity, conflicts between youth, age, and class, and the peculiar myths of old London.
