Description
Bawdy and moving, hilarious and reflective, these stories offer the very best of Boccaccio's Decameron. In the early summer of 1348, ten charming young men take refuge in country villas to tell each other stories - one hundred tales of love, adventure, and surprising twists of fortune.
These stories, later inspiring famous writers such as Chaucer, Keats, and Shakespeare, are now collected in a fresh, accessible new translation by Peter Hainsworth. The Decameron is a masterpiece of classical Italian prose, written in an early Florentine dialect that has influenced scores of literature.
With tales featuring faithless wives, philandering priests, and curious nuns, this collection offers a unique glimpse into the lives of medieval Italy's inhabitants. a worthwhile read for anyone interested in classical literature and its enduring influence on Western writing.
