Description
Flight Lieutenant Richard Rivaz continues his account of life in RAF Bomber Command during World War II. After his time as a tail gunner, he undergoes flight training in Canada, an experience that is vastly different from the bombing raids over Europe. This memoir documents Rivaz's rigorous training, including both his successes and failures, as well as those who served alongside him. Rivaz' narration of this period is marked by modesty yet vividness, offering a unique perspective on life as a pilot during wartime. The book also delves into the stories of those around him, including one pilot who believed gremlins were responsible for his plane's crashes. Written within months of the events, Rivaz provides an account that feels immediate and personal. Tail Gunner Takes Over is a powerful memoir of one man's war in the air, offering a firsthand look at life as a pilot during World War II.
