Description
Josef Sudek's photographs of sculpture offer a unique insight into his practice as both fine art photographer and commercial artist. This book explores this lesser-known aspect of his work, revealing the tension between photography's ability to bring art closer to the people and its potential as a work of art in its own right. Through sumptuous full-page reproductions of Sudek's black-and-white photographs, thematic essays shed light on the scope and legacy of his sculpture work. Cameos from key figures and institutions that supported his career provide a rich context for understanding Sudek's connection to the artistic circles and movements of his time. By examining Sudek's photographs of sculpture, readers can gain a deeper understanding of this pivotal period in his practice and the ways in which he navigated the boundaries between art and commerce.
