Description

August Strindberg: A Life by Sue Prideaux explores the complex and multifaceted life of one of literature's greatest figures. This biography sheds new light on Strindberg's work, revealing the connections between his art and everyday life. Strindberg was a true Renaissance man - novelist, satirist, poet, photographer, painter, alchemist, and hellraiser - yet it is his plays that have had the most lasting impact. With sixty other plays to his name, Strindberg's work continues to be studied and performed around the world. Prideaux's biography marks a significant milestone in our understanding of Strindberg's life, coinciding with the centenary of his death in 1912. By exploring both the "real" world and the world of ideas, Prideaux offers a nuanced and engaging portrait of this pivotal figure in Western drama.
