Steaming by Nell Dunn is a full-length play that takes place in a run-down public baths in London's East End. Five naked women meet to bathe and share their troubles, revealing their complex lives and relationships. The play explores themes of love, loss, and identity through the characters' struggles with men, marriage, and themselves. From Josie's search for a caring partner to Nancy's disappointment after her lawyer-husband left her, each woman's story is a poignant commentary on the human experience. First performed in London in 1981, Steaming won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. The play has since been adapted into a film and revived on Broadway, starring Vanessa Redgrave and Judith Ivey.
