Description
Stanley Matthews: A Life of Football and Humility This authorised biography celebrates the life and sporting achievements of Stanley Matthews, 'footballer and gentleman'. Written at his daughter's request just a decade after his death, it offers a unique insight into the life of this legendary footballer. The book reveals Matthews' remarkable training regime, which was decades ahead of its time, as well as his influential work in Africa during South Africa's World Cup year. It also explores his legacy, recognised by one of the world's foremost statesmen, Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Through Jean Gough's unique viewpoint, readers gain a deeper understanding of 'Stan the Man' and what he meant to those who watched him play. A fascinating and humbling portrait of a footballing legend, this biography is a worthwhile read for anyone interested in the sport or its history.
