Description
Solaris by Dr Mark Bould explores the 1972 film of the same name as a product of its genre rather than a transcendent work. The author examines Andrei Tarkovsky's fascination with Stanislaw Lem's novel and Steven Soderbergh's 2002 adaptation, situating Solaris within the Russian and global cultures of science fiction. This special edition features original cover artwork by Matthew Shlian. Bould's lively and revealing examination provides new insights into the film and its place in Tarkovsky's oeuvre. By treating Solaris as a genre film, Dr Mark Bould offers a fresh perspective on this influential work.
