Description
Signor Hoffman is a journey through the author's family history and identity. A writer travels to Italy to pay tribute to his Polish grandfather, who was imprisoned in Auschwitz; he explores the coast of Guatemala, from a black-sand beach in the Pacific to a white-sand beach in the Atlantic; he arrives in Harlem, driven by nostalgia for a jazz club; and he searches for his family's legacy in Poland.
Each of the stories that make up this book moves between two poles: the mundane and the inner journey, identity and disguise. The author explores how our travels are ultimately one journey, and how we adopt different identities to survive. This new work by Eduardo Halfon continues a literary project begun with El boxeador polaco and La pirueta.
