Description
Shane is a masterful Western film that has become synonymous with Hollywood's Golden Age. Directed by George Stevens, it is a poignant and atmospheric tribute to an era and genre. The film tells the story of Shane, a mysterious stranger who rides into a valley and becomes embroiled in a range war between cattle barons and primitive farmers. Through the eyes of Joey Starrett, a young boy who idolises the enigmatic Shane, we witness two separate dramas unfold against the majestic backdrop of the Teton peaks. As Shane navigates his own journey from gunfighter to farmhand and back again, we see parallels with Joey's coming-of-age story. The film's day-to-day events are meticulously documented, alongside its symbolic significance, making this a comprehensive study of a groundbreaking Western. Copiously illustrated with stills from the film and candid shots of the stars between takes and off the set, Shane is a detailed and wide-ranging analysis of a Hollywood classic.
