Description
Elizabeth d'Espérance's personal history is a deeply engaging narrative that weaves together the events of her life with her extraordinary experiences as a Victorian spiritualist and celebrity medium.
She recounts her childhood in the company of "shadow people," her early forays into automatic writing and séances, and the attendant fears of madness and the Devil. With rich, absorbing detail, she describes the subjective experience of inhabiting the medium's altered state, as well as the horror of sensing one's own identity being subsumed by another.
This is a uniquely introspective memoir that resolves in a passionate visionary experience and a message of hope, offering a fascinating glimpse into an extraordinary life-long quest for truth.
