Description

Sensing Earth Cultural Quests Across a Heated Globe by Philipp Dietachmair, Pascal Gielen, and Georgia Nicolau explores the complex relationships between art, culture, nature, and activism. The volume delves into the ecological dimensions of the art industry, examining how artists navigate cultural circulation to share ideas while contributing to environmental decline. The contributors tackle issues such as the economic precarity faced by artists in the Global South, the impact of international exhibitions on the planet's ecological footprint, and the role of art in addressing ecological complicity. Through a diverse range of essays, interviews, poetry, manifestos, and case studies, this collection sheds light on the intersections between art, culture, and nature. Published in Valiz's Antennae series, Sensing Earth offers a nuanced examination of the aesthetic dimensions and contradictions of ecological consciousness.
