Seeker

The Seeker is a novel by Jack McDevitt, published in 2006. In the distant future, two ships set out from Earth to escape a fascist theocracy that had taken over North America. One ship, the Bremerhaven, and another, the Seeker, established a colony on a distant planet called Margolia. The colony disappeared from recorded history thousands of years later. The legendary status of Margolia has made it a subject of interest for antiquities dealer Alex Benedict, who comes into possession of a cup that seems to be from the Seeker. Investigating the provenance of the cup, Alex and Chase Kolpath follow a deadly trail to the Seeker, which is found strangely adrift in a system barren of habitable worlds. Their discovery raises more questions than it answers, drawing them into the center of the mystery surrounding Margolia. As they delve deeper into the mystery, Alex and Chase are drawn into the very heart of danger. The Seeker's presence poses significant questions about its origins and fate, and the truth behind the colony's disappearance may be more sinister than initially thought.
