Description

Secrets of Creation brings together two seemingly disparate worlds: art and mathematics. This book documents a fascinating meeting of minds between an artist and a mathematician, exploring how artists use scientific concepts in their work.

The project, which took place over a week-long residency, saw the artist Conrad Shawcross and mathematician Matthew Watkins engage in discussions and debates about the role of art and mathematics. As they navigated different approaches to formalism and natural language, they gradually forged a shared discourse that bridged the gap between their two disciplines.

The result was a joint creation - an assemblage that defies categorization as either artwork or mathematical model. This book presents both the discussions and debates of the residency project, offering insight into the creative process and the ways in which art and mathematics intersect.
