Description
The history of Crawley and Gatwick reveals a rich tapestry of change and development. From its ancient Roman ironworks to its current status as a major airport, this area has undergone significant transformations over the centuries. Gatwick Airport is just one part of the story, with many other secrets waiting to be uncovered. The town's location at the crossroads of London and Brighton made it an important trade route from the thirteenth century onwards. The arrival of the railways brought prosperity and expansion, while the post-war designation as a 'new town' led to rapid growth and development. This book brings the history of Crawley and Gatwick to life, highlighting the many stories and secrets hidden beneath the surface of this often-overlooked area.
