Description

Sammy Baloji's Mémoire : Kolwezi is a powerful exploration of the relationship between mining and the people affected by it. Over the past decade, the photographer has captured the stories of those living in the shadow of the industry, revealing a complex web of hope and resilience. Through his images, Baloji invites us to reconsider our understanding of society and its impact on individuals and communities. His photographs of Kolwezi, a ghost town where workers strive to reclaim their lives and dignity, offer a poignant reminder that even in the face of adversity, there is always a way forward. The text accompanying these powerful images is available in English, French, Dutch, and German, providing a nuanced understanding of this important work.
