Description

Pia Tafdrup's Salamander Sun and Other Poems is a poignant collection of 60 poems that span her life from birth to 2011. This new translation combines two recent collections, exploring the dimensions of travel, both physical and inner.

The poems cast light backwards on Pia Tafdrup's journey, reflecting on childhood, love, study, politics, and becoming a poet, as well as growing older and facing mortality. At the same time, they seek to focus on the future, creating a nuanced exploration of passage and its complexities.

Together with The Whales in Paris and Tarkovsky's Horses, Salamander Sun forms part of a quartet that centres on the theme of journeying and passage, each book building on the tension created by the others.
