Description

New photographs from Søren Solkær's internationally acclaimed series on the natural migration patterns of starlings are presented in this monograph. A sequel to his previous work, Starling chronicles Solkær's return to the landscape of his childhood and youth in southern Denmark. Solkær spent three years following and photographing the migration of the starling, capturing its movements against a range of backgrounds including Roman urban architecture. The graphic and organic shapes of the starling murmurations are revealed in these new photographs, showcasing the birds' incredible ballet of life and death. Two new series of photographs featuring starling feathers photographed through a microscope add an additional layer to the work. Through his lens, Solkær approaches the phenomenon from both mythological and scientific angles, offering fresh perspectives on this natural wonder.
