Description

Róisín Campbell stepped off a boat in New York Harbor in 1870 with little knowledge of the world beyond her small town in County Limerick. She had devoured novels during her chores and was now about to embark on a new journey. Róisín's cousin Jimmy Regan and Michael Henry, a bachelor she met on board, would play significant roles in her life. As a young Irishwoman with limited experience, Róisín received service training from the Sisters of Mercy and found work as a maid in a wealthy household. However, jealousy and misunderstandings led to her dismissal, and she was barred from working in fashionable homes. Her circumstances eventually changed when she began training as a nurse at a clinic for the Irish poor. This story follows Róisín's journey as she navigates the challenges of her new life in America, including finding love and making difficult decisions that will shape her future.
