Description
The mythical figure of Robin Hood has become an enduring icon through his presence in popular culture for over six centuries. Stephen Knight presents a deeply informed exploration of this legendary character, examining the various manifestations of Robin Hood at different times and places. Knight's approach is to consider the purposes served by heroes, rather than their chronological progression. The book is structured around four central chapters, each identifying a particular model of the hero and exploring its interrelations, implications, and historical context. By examining these different models of the hero, Knight sheds new light on the evolution of the Robin Hood myth over time, revealing the complex social and political forces that have shaped our understanding of this iconic figure.
