Description
Swiss photographer René Groebli's collection of 74 photographs is a remarkable example of early subjective photography. First published in 1949 as a series of fifteen images, it was met with dismissive criticism at the time. However, Groebli revisited his fascination with French steam locomotives and travel by rail in the 1990s, resulting in this dynamic visual document. The photographs showcase Groebli's working style, which is clearly inspired by his experience with moving images and his love of cinema. The book features pictures taken using either a Leica III F with a single lens or with a twin-lens Rolleiflex camera. This unique approach to photography adds to the visual appeal of the collection. With 74 photographs spanning over 70 years, this book offers a fascinating glimpse into Groebli's artistic vision and his relationship with film and travel.
