Description

Rehenes is a powerful exploration of the constraints placed on women in the workplace. When Sylvie, a seemingly perfect employee, is asked to classify workers as those who should be saved from a collective layoff or those who shouldn't, her world begins to unravel.

This thought-provoking novel sparks a call to action, challenging readers to reconsider their submission to societal norms and the systems that perpetuate inequality. It's a story about the tension between freedom and obedience, and the harsh realities faced by women in a patriarchal society where violence is often meted out with equal ferocity as it is inflicted.

Nina Bouraoui's writing is both a personal manifesto and a searing indictment of the status quo. A French-Algerian writer, Bouraoui brings her unique perspective to this timely and necessary novel.
