Description

Rationality and Power: Democracy in Practice by Bent Flyvbjerg explores how power influences rational decision-making in policy-making, administration, and planning. In this thought-provoking study, Flyvbjerg examines the complex relationship between power and rationality, revealing that context-dependent power can blur the lines between rationality and rationalization. Through a detailed analysis of an internationally acclaimed project for environmental improvement in Aalborg, Denmark, Flyvbjerg sheds light on the real politics and rationality behind policy-making. This book offers a rare, in-depth understanding of the classic drama that defines democracy and modernity, making it a valuable resource for those interested in political science and civic citizenship. By uncovering the intricate dynamics of power and rationality, Flyvbjerg provides a nuanced perspective on the nature of democracy and its relationship to power. This book is an essential read for anyone seeking to understand the complexities of democratic decision-making and the role of power in shaping our social and environmental institutions.
