Description

Ramona A novel by Helen Hunt Jackson, published in 1884, Ramona is a story of racial discrimination, survival and history set in California after the Mexican American War. Orphaned after her foster mother's death, Ramona, a Scottish-Native American girl, is taken in by her reluctant foster aunt Señora Gonzaga Moreno. Discrimination due to her mixed heritage and troubled upbringing forces Ramona to face challenges early on. Despite this, Gonzaga Moreno begrudgingly provides for her as though she were her own daughter. When a group of Native American migrant workers arrives from Temecula, Ramona falls in love with Alessandro, a pious Catholic. The lovers elope and make their way towards the San Bernardino Mountains, facing racism and violence along the way. This edition of Helen Hunt Jackson's Ramona is reimagined for modern readers, featuring a fresh, professionally typeset manuscript and a new cover that maintains the integrity of the original book.
