Description

Queer Brown Voices: Personal Narratives of Latina/o LGBT Activism offers a new perspective on the history of LGBT mobilization and activism. This book documents the efforts of fourteen activists across the United States and in Puerto Rico, shedding light on their experiences of being racialized and discriminated against, fighting for access to healthcare during the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and struggling for awareness. The book provides a counter-narrative to the often-misrepresented role of LGBT Latinas/os in the history of LGBT activism. Comprising essays and oral history interviews, it presents a broad-ranging view of the organizations these activists helped create and operate, as well as their personal struggles and triumphs. By sharing the stories of these pioneering activists, Queer Brown Voices provides a valuable contribution to our understanding of the complex intersections of identity, community, and social justice.
