Description
Psychoanalytic Criticism: A Reappraisal by Elizabeth Wright provides a comprehensive introduction to the field. This revised edition explores how psychoanalytic criticism can be justified as a distinct approach, examining major figures and texts from Freud to the present day. The author delves into various schools of psychoanalysis, including Jungian analytic psychology, objects-relations theory, French psychoanalysis, and feminist psychoanalytic criticism. By adopting a critical perspective, Wright investigates recurring problems across these divisions, revealing connections between the aesthetic process and the psychoanalytic approach in unexpected areas such as Shakespearean tragedy, performance theatre, magic realism, and detective fiction. This new edition of Psychoanalytic Criticism will be valuable reading for students of literature, literary theory, psychoanalysis, feminism, cultural studies, and the humanities.
