Description

Thomas Bernhard's Prose is a collection of seven stories that capture his distinct darkly comic voice and vision. Written in the 1960s, these tales comment on a corrupted world with a mastery of language reminiscent of Kafka and Musil. The narrators of these stories are trapped by their own memories, forced to listen and then write, leaving the reader as a captive listener deciphering the traps laid by words. This translation, by Martin Chalmer, brings Bernhard's work in English for the first time, showcasing his bleak existential monologues and talent for language. Bernhard's writing style is characterized by its intensity and complexity, making this collection a thought-provoking read for those interested in literary fiction.
