It's the summer of 1968, a year of love and hate, when Prague Spring and Cold War winter collide. Two English students embark on a journey across Europe with no particular aim in mind, seeking to discover themselves and the world around them.

In southern Germany, they make an impulsive decision to visit Czechoslovakia, where Alexander Dubcek's 'socialism with a human face' is transforming the country. Meanwhile, at the British embassy in Prague, Sam Wareham finds himself drawn into the world of Czech youth, their hopes and ideas unfolding like a fragile flower.
