Description
Postcards from god: [with Purdah] is a powerful collection of poems by Imtiaz Dharker. Spanning three countries - Pakistan, Britain and India - her work explores themes of transition, displacement, grief and the complexities of cultural identity. The poet's experiences as a child, exile, journeying and home are woven into these poems, which also reflect on the tensions between different cultures and societies. Her unique voice is accompanied by her own drawings, integral to the book's design. This collection combines two earlier works, Purdah (1989) and Postcards from god (1994), offering a nuanced exploration of the poet's chosen society and its struggles with violence, feuds and social unrest.
