Description

Planet Middle School is a novel in verse story about young heartbreak and hope. For twelve years, Joylin's life has been just fine, with simple pleasures like basketball and hanging out with friends.

But everything changes when her best friend starts flirting with her best guy friend, and Joylin finds herself struggling to cope with the sudden shift in her relationships and sense of self. As she navigates this uncertain time, she meets a new boy named Santiago who seems to appear out of nowhere.

In short poems that capture the crazy feelings of adolescence and first crushes, Nikki Grimes crafts a story that is both humorous and heart-wrenching. With its relatable themes and authentic voice, Planet Middle School is a worthwhile read for anyone who has ever experienced the ups and downs of growing up.
