Description
Fifty years ago, the British government took action to close down the offshore pirate radio stations that had sprouted up around the coast. This book delves into what was really going on behind the scenes of these unlicensed radio operations. The UK's experience with offshore pirate radio stations is often linked to broader social and political movements of the time, such as civil rights protests and anti-war movements. However, a closer look reveals that the motivations behind the early offshore stations were more complex, driven by a range of agendas that went beyond simple liberation struggles. By examining the history of these offshore operations, this book sheds new light on the power games and interests that lay beneath the surface of this fascinating period in British history.
