Description

Selected Poems, 1970-2007 is a definitive collection of poetry by Paul Violi, as chosen by his friends and colleagues Charles North and Tony Towle. This selection showcases Violi's unique gift for transforming everyday observations into compelling works of art.

Violis's poetry is informed by an unassuming erudition and a wide-ranging reading of history, allowing him to explore various modes with ease. From concise and insightful observations about his time in the Peace Corps in Nigeria to masterful works like The Monk of Montaudon, Violi maintains a gently ironic tone that belies a profound sensibility.

This important collection should help establish Paul Violi's place in American poetry, offering readers a unique glimpse into the work of an underappreciated yet gifted poet. With 243 pages of carefully curated poetry, Selected Poems, 1970-2007 is a valuable addition to any poetry collection.
