The Passion Play Oberammergau 2022 is an official illustrated book documenting Christian Stückl's new production of the world-famous Passion Play. This edition features set designs, costumes and tableaux vivants by Stefan Hageneier, as well as photographs from the rehearsals captured by Icelandic cinematographer Birgit Gupjynsdyttir. The Oberammergau Passion Play has a rich history dating back to 1633, when the community vowed to stage the 'play of the suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ' every ten years. This feat of continuity is unrivalled, with almost half the residents of Oberammergau participating in the five-hour performance on the imposing open-air stage. This book provides a unique insight into the 2022 production, which highlights the pressing issues of asylum and integration.
