Description
Discover the vast history of machine-written texts from the early days of computer generation systems. This anthology, Output, brings together 7 decades of creative writing produced by computer-generated systems, correcting the omission that has largely overlooked this area of work. Edited by Lillian-Yvonne Bertram and Nick Montfort, Output presents a diverse range of English-language texts generated by research systems, reports, utilitarian texts, and more. The outputs span various genres, including conversations, humor, letters, poetry, prose, and sentences. Each excerpt is introduced individually, organized by genre, and accompanied by bibliographic references for further exploration. This collection is designed to be both a reference book and a readable work of art, showcasing the evolution of text generation over seven decades.
