Description
Out of the Ordinary: A Life of Gender and Spiritual Transitions
This memoir, first written over 50 years ago, offers an extraordinary life story told in its own words. Michael Dillon/Lobzang Jivaka recounts his various journeys, including his childhood, medical studies, and travels as a ship's surgeon, within the major narratives of his gender and religious journeys.
From his days at Oxford to his hormonal transition during World War II, and from his surgical transition under Sir Harold Gillies to his Buddhist monastic ordination in India and Tibet, Dillon/Jivaka chronicles a unique account of an early sex transition and religious conversion in the mid-twentieth century.
